The NBA’s Annual rookie draft on Thursday (Friday Manila time) serves as the first big function to kick start the new basketball season.
Newly-crowned back-to-back champions Miami Heat have just wrapped up their celebration in South Beach. And they remain the title favorites for the next few seasons with an intact roster.
And for top draft prospects like Nerlens Noel of the University of Kentucky (the same school that produced multi-titled NBA coach and current Heat president Pat Riley) along Victor Oladipo of Indiana, the NBA Draft serves as the defining moment as they try to find their own niche in the professional basketball world.
The Cleveland Cavaliers, who own the first pick in the draft, have surely done their research as they try to continue rebuilding in the post-Lebron James era.
Considering the NBA Draft is just a few hours away, I wonder how many people among the over seven billion living in this planet are itching to get “drafted” in God’s winning team?
In God’s “draft” process, He doesn’t just choose us based on our talent, our stats, or our ability to produce.
In fact, God handpicks us even in our worst state!
When He calls us to His team, an important part of His “game plan” is to cleanse us from our sinful past through Christ’s finished work on the cross, before giving us a new and far better life, than we used to live. And the Bible calls that grace.
A passage in 1 Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
God’s draft has no limit. He wants you and me and everyone in this planet to know Him, submit to Him and obey Him. As John 10:10 (The Message) says, “I (Jesus) came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.”
Are you part of God’s winning team? Who else among your circle of friends, needs to be part of God’s winning team?
