DIGOS CITY – Chris Ellis, the newly-minted PBA Slam Dunk king, wished he clinched his title with a more explosive ending.
While his arm-in-the-ring slam dunk left the Digos City fans erupting in frenzy inside the Davao del Sur Coliseum here, Ellis, being a perfectionist, is looking forward to defending his crown tomorrow, if it’s possible.
“How I wished I was able to do it more fluidly,” Ellis shared while we were on our way back to our hotel in Davao City.
The 6’4” Ellis said he’s been practicing his last, title-clinching dunk well in Manila, but somehow, he just didn’t like the idea that he had to complete the dunk on his second attempt instead of just one attempt.
Nevertheless, Ellis is happy to entertain some 3,000 fans that packed the coliseum. An even greater news for him was learning that his mother and his family back in Tampa, Florida was able to see him do his high-wire act via livestream.
“Yeah, so happy that my mom will go to work happy after seeing me win the title,” Ellis added.
With one year to prepare for the 2014 Slam Dunk contest, Ellis promised to come up with more creative and “impactful” dunks.”
