Pau Gasol’s Move Back To His All-Star Self

I think Pau Gasol could greatly benefit following Dwight Howard’s defection to the Houston Rockets on Friday (Saturday in Manila).

gasol1The seven-foot Spaniard is coming off an injury-ravaged NBA 2013 season, which saw him just play 49 out of the 82-regular season games.

By spending more time on the sidelines than on the court, Gasol finished the season with a career-low 13.7 points, as he appeared lost under coach Mike D’Antoni’s run-and-gun type of system.

While Gasol did finish with 8.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists in the season, I feel he could get his numbers back to All-Star status once he becomes healthy again and get more accustomed to D’Antoni’s system.

I admire Gasol’s professional and cool approach despite the fact that in the last two and a half seasons, his name has appeared in numerous trade talks.

Despite that, Gasol managed to keep his focus on the goal of helping the Lakers in each of those seasons.

Without Howard in the post, Gasol hopefully could swing back to his post-plays if ever the Lakers decide to run the half-court set since that means playing to the Spaniard big man’s strengths.

How about you? Do you think Gasol can benefit from Howard’s move to Houston?
