An injured James Yap felt helpless last summer when he could only watch the Alaska Aces dismantle his team, the San Mig Coffee Mixers during their PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinal series on the bench.
He sat out in Game 4 of that series where the Aces finished off the Mixers, 78-83 to put an end to his team’s title-retention bid.
Now, Yap said his main goal is to help the team pile up the wins in the compact nine-game elimination round schedule.
Since the tournament is short, every game matters for the former two-time PBA MVP.
“Prepared na kami even sa physical teams,” referring to PBA squads like Rain or Shine, which San Mig Coffee faces on Wednesday (Aug 14) to kick off the Governors Cup basketball hostilities at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Yap said with a tone of revenge: “Kilala natin ang Rain or Shine, magaling na team iyan. Ilang beses na din kaming nilaglag niyan (in the playoffs and last year’s Governors Cup Finals). Ayaw ko na mangyari yun.”
The San Mig star guard has spoken. Now it’s up to the rest of the Mixers to take the challenge.
