Writing has been part of my life since I was a high school student.
I was once cleaning up our stock room at home when I found an old copy of our high school publication called PSA (Philippine Scholastic Academy) Gazette, where I wrote a few articles while editing it with my classmate and current La Salle professor Danny Cheng.
I looked at that campus publication issue as the “turning point” because it planted the “writing and editing” seeds in my life.
Sixteen years since I earned my Journalism degree at the University of Santo Tomas, I’ve worked with some of the country’s top news dailies – the Manila Times, Manila Bulletin, the Daily Tribune and a few sports magazines during the 1990s. Now, I’m writing at the country’s only stand-along sports website called Spin.ph.
At the same time, I also had this privilege of helping our good friend, Chinkee Tan in editing his newest “baby”, ALWAYS CHINK +.
It’s a book, which I personally believe, will help every person, from youth, to professionals, business people, even retired people to be inspired, motivated, challenged and disturbed.
Our country has been reeling from one shocking controversy after another, one corruption story after another, one negative story after another. Our “kababayans” in Visayas, particularly Tacloban City and some parts of Leyte are still picking up the pieces of their shattered life, more than a month since super typhoon Yolanda rocked that side of our country.
Our minds are obviously filled with negative things – negative things, which tend to influence the way we look at life in general.
But we don’t have to allow the negative situations around us to influence the way we think, the way we speak and the way we act.
To borrow from what Chinkee wrote at the purpose of ALWAYS CHINK +, “you don’t allow your situation to control you. Instead, you control your situation.”
As we celebrate Christmas and as we welcome the New Year, I encourage you to get a copy of Chinkee’s new book. As you get inspired with the truth, you’ll discover that you too, can be an inspiration to many.
