Behind the success of every athlete are people – people who probably serve as that athlete’s coach, trainer, nutritionist, parent, brother, sister or best friend – people who have spoken words of encouragement, played a critical role in his training or prepared nutritious food to ensure he maintains energy during training and competition.
In other words, behind the life of a successful athlete are people who contributed something to make that dream a reality.
Manny Pacquiao will forever be remembered as the first and thus far, the only eight-division world boxing champion – winning 10 world titles as well as being the only fighter to win the lineal championship in four different weight classes.
Pacquiao’s boxing life story has been appealing to every Filipino, who could easily identify to his humble beginnings and rise to world-class boxing status.
But Pacquiao couldn’t have done it without Freddie Roach, his team of boxing handlers, his ever-supportive wife Jinkee and even the people who share his Christian faith.
Like Manny Pacquiao, we all need someone, who could lend a hand to us, speak words of encouragement, pray for us, or even serve as our partner in our life journey.
Here’s a lesson we can learn from the wisdom God gave to King Solomon, who undoubtedly brought Israel to its “Golden Age” thousands of years ago – It’s better to have a partner than go it alone. Share the work, share the wealth. And if one falls down, the other helps, but if there’s no one to help, tough! (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, The Message).
With the help of a friend, a coach, a family member or someone who shares the same faith you have, you can live productively and victoriously.
Hopefully, you don’t “run” alone, but find someone who can “run” with you.
